Welcome to Xibalba, the cyber­spatial version of the heavily networked Edinburgh flat sometimes known as Emmental.  So why isn't the web­site named Emmental, you ask?  Answer: because our computers have traditionally used Maya pantheon names, and the Maya underworld is called Xibalba.

When John set it up in 1997 and made me web­master, the idea was that we'd all come up with pages of our own to put here.  But even he never managed that, so this top level is a bit pointless and vestigial, retained only because I don't want to change all my URLs — JBR
